Swansboro, NC

Beautiful Wooden Sculpture

Left Oriental, NC Friday morning (8/8) and traveled to Swansboro, NC. What a great little town, nestled in between White Oak River and Brown's Inlet. With the "Hook and Bones Redfish Open Tournament" going on this weekend the town was bustling with tourists and supporters. The top prize was $5000! We were able to see some of the fisherman return to the marina carrying their prize possessions with the hopes of being the top winner.

Friday evening Ron and I went over to the White Oak River Bistro for wine tasting and walked around town checking out a few of the shops that were still open. I wanted to have some time to explore the town so we decided to stay another day.

One place you cannot miss while in Swansboro is Yana's Restaurant open for breakfast and lunch only. We walked there the next morning and when we turned the corner and looked up  the street there were tons of people waiting outside to get in. While waiting to get in we poked our heads into "Yana's 50's Memorabilia Shop" next door. There were some fabulous photos we had not seen before. As we got seated for breakfast we were given fresh out of the oven strawberry fritters as a teaser.. YUM!!!!!! (They bake strwberry, banana, apple and peach fritters everyday) The food was excellent and the staff was very friendly. Great way to start your morning!

At the Swansboro waterfront you will find many Muskovy Ducks. They are not pesty but if you talk to them they will start running towards you thinking you will feed them. One of the shop owners was telling us that three baby ducks lost their mom the previous night due to car accident, so she has taken them in along with her stray kitten to feed them.

Saturday night found us at the Church Street Irish Pub for dinner and great music! We made it an early night since we planned on untying the lines early Sunday and heading to Wrightsville Beach, NC.
